Textbook: “Mathematics: Grade 7” Common Core, Holt McDougal
Course Description: Pre-Algebra will provide a solid foundation in fundamental middle grade topics including fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, and percents. It will also prepare students for future math study by
integrating key algebra, geometry, and data analysis topics throughout the year.
Supply List:
Pencils (for the year)
Dry Erase Marker (not yellow)

Loose Leaf Paper College Rule (for the year)
Materials needed daily: textbook, math notebook, 1-2 pencils, loose leaf paper, folder, and agenda
Classroom Expectations:
1. Be prepared
· Be on time with all necessary materials and homework completed.
2. Be respectful
· Treat all people and property with respect.
3. Be responsible
· Participate in class, complete & correct your homework and classwork, and use your agenda.
4. Expect a challenge
· Do your best and take pride in your work. If you do not understand - Ask Questions
Homework: When homework is assigned, its use for the next class is vital and therefore expected to be completed. All assignments must be completed in pencil and all work needs to be shown to receive full credit. Grading is on a 4 point scale:
To Receive credit for homework: work must be completed in pencil, problem written and show all work
§ 4 points: all problems are completed and excellent effort is shown
§ 2 points: most of the problems are completed and effort was shown
§ 3 points: all problems are completed and good effort is shown
§ 1 point: turned in with little effort shown
Absences: When absent, you are expected to take responsibility to obtain and return all material covered while you were gone. Daily activities and work will be documented in the online homework calendar found on the class website. Any worksheets etc. will be labeled with your name and filed on the “While You Were Out” table for you to pick up when you return. If you miss a quiz or test, you will be expected to make it up as soon as possible. The quizzes and tests will be documented in the online homework calendar found on the class website. If you miss more than one day, contact the teacher to make arrangements for turning in your work or taking a quiz/test.
Evaluations: Your grade is on a point system and will consist of the following evaluations:
>Tests > Quizzes > Class Activities > Homework Practice
Grading Scale: The standard grading scale in the student handbook will be used.
Agenda: Your agenda must be filled out daily.
Grade Access: Grades are available online and can be accessed using the Alma Parent/Student Portal. The John Young website has a link on the homepage. Contact the school office to receive information about your login.
Tutoring: There is tutoring daily after school until 4:00. Exceptions would be on days that there is staff meeting or a parent conference. Students need to be in the room by 3:30 for tutoring.
Parents as Partners:
Family involvement is an essential element for a student’s success in mathematics. Be positive and support homework, don’t do it for them. Think of yourself as a guide rather than your child’s teacher. You can help by asking questions and listening. You may also help by visiting the online textbook it has many resources and encouraging your child to take advantage of the tutorials, interactive activities, and other online resources listed below.
